COVID-19 and Telemental Health Services

With the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus and in order to keep our patients and staff safe, we have evolved how we are providing care in the homes and communities we serve. As a response, we have implemented telemental health (video conference or phone/audio only sessions) services as a way to continue to provide therapy to our clients.


The safety and health of our patients and staff is paramount.  In an effort to assist our current patients and the greater community with behavioral health services during this trying time, Mindful Transitions is now offering telemental health visits-by video and phone.

Must I have a video session?  What about a phone session?

Recently, Medicare has approved both video platform psychotherapy sessions and phone/audio only psychotherapy sessions as a covered benefit for beneficiaries with Traditional Medicare for the duration of the COVID-19 Emergency Period. While video is still our preferred method for conducting psychotherapy when we cannot see clients in person, we understand that video technology is not always preferred or easily utilized by the client. We now have the ability to provide Medicare Covered phone/audio only sessions in these situations and for the duration of the COVID-19 Emergency period.

Which video platform do you use? 

We use Google Meet for our telemental health appointments as our preferred method due to it’s HIPAA compliance.    

Do I need a Google email address?

No, you will only need access to a computer with email, video and audio capability.

If you have a Google (gmail) email address, you may use the Google Meet app on your phone or tablet.

Does it matter where I’m located?

As long as you are located within the state of Georgia, our team of LCSWs can serve you via telemental health-either by video or phone.  The requirements for services out of state are a little tricky and are still evolving so please call our office for details.  

My Mom/Dad/loved one/resident is uncomfortable with technology.  How can we get him/her online to see you?

The answer to this will vary based on the technology available to your loved one and whether they have anyone available in person who can help.  We can try to evaluate this in further detail on a case by case basis and make some suggestions. Feel free to give us a call to discuss further.  We may need to enlist the help of their community staff or others to support the process.   Also, now that Medicare has approved phone/audio only sessions, we could try that as well.

How do I schedule? 

If you are already seeing one of our providers, please call the clinician directly to arrange a video conference or phone session. If you are a new patient, please call our office at (678) 637-7166 or email and ask to schedule a telemental health appointment.
